Why this exists

Howdy y'all! I'm Josh. I get to open that way honestly these days — I live in Texas now, where "howdy" and/or "y'all" is just how people talk. That it also happens to suit a site about card tables is a coincidence I'm perfectly willing to take credit for.

I built Know the Table for my daughter — so she could sit down with her guy friends, who are deeply and enthusiastically committed to losing money at poker, and hold her own. That's the whole story. There isn't a bigger one.

What I wanted was somewhere to learn the actual math — pre-flop ranges, pot odds and outs, blackjack basic strategy — without the mental burden of having real money riding on it while you're still figuring it out. Learning a game and gambling on a game are two different activities, and only one of them charges you tuition every time you get it wrong.

Nothing wrong with playing for stakes if that's your thing. It just isn't mine. Given the choice between a casino floor and ripping open packs at the kitchen table, I'm taking the packs every time — which is also why there's a Little Free Card Shop.

So: no accounts, no chips to buy, no house edge pointed at you. Just the tables, the math, and as many hands as it takes until the right play is the obvious one.
